The EduQual Customised Awards Framework

EduQual-endorsed customised courses are developed according to the EduQual Customised Awards Framework. Their purpose is to meet the specific needs of users that are not already met by regulated / accredited qualifications.

Whilst EduQual-endorsed customised courses are not regulated / accredited qualifications, Centres that deliver them are subject to regular external quality assurance activities by EduQual, including the verification of assessment standards.

During the course endorsement process, EduQual assigns an EduQual level and an EduQual credit-value to every individual unit (module) and the overall course. One EduQual credit represents ten hours of learning. Learning hours may include:

  • Self-led, individual learning (e.g. independent and unsupervised research and reading)
  • Unsupervised compilation of a portfolio of work experience
  • Unsupervised e-learning
  • Unsupervised e-assessment
  • Unsupervised coursework
  • Watching a pre-recorded podcast or webinar
  • Unsupervised work-based learning
  • All Guided (taught) Learning
  • All other assessment activities (e.g. including written / practical assessment or supervised, invigilated exams)

EduQual assigns a level based on the level descriptors of globally recognised qualification frameworks, such as the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF), the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ), and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

EduQual considers its levels to be broadly comparable with levels of recognised qualification frameworks according to the table below. For example, we consider EduQual Level 7 to be broadly comparable to RQF/FHEQ/EQF Level 7 and SCQF Level 11.
